Reaching the Height of the Full Moon in Sidereal Cancer

On February 10th around 7:30pm ET we will reach the height of the Full Moon in Sidereal Cancer. This is the half way point in the Lunar Cycle that began with the New Moon in Capricorn.

This particular Full Moon also happens to be a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, where the outer edges of the Earth’s shadow cross the Moon and dim its light.

Eclipses happen when the Moon and Sun get close to the Lunar Nodes which are known as Rahu and Ketu in Vedic Astrology. The Nodes bring heightened Karmic acceleration to the usual Full Moon.

In this particular case, the New Moon began a Lunar cycle with themes around commitment to your goals and desires for success, while learning how to overcome obstacles to reaching that success.

The Full Moon always brings the balancing energy. Where Capricorn is focused on creating systems and structure as a means of consistence action and vision towards a goal, Cancer energy is about the vulnerability of the Heart and our search for Love and Peace within.

Imagine what would happen if you simply pursued success at all costs, without any emotional connection. It’s true that we often times need to be able to make non-emotionally decisions when we pursue a goal, because we need to be practical and determine the best steps. But if we live ONLY in that experience, we could become ruthless towards success without concern for anything but our own desires for success. We might also simply burn out, being so committed that we never stop to rest, to receive, to celebrate.

The Effects of the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Cancer

The Full Moon in Cancer brings the balancing energy to this. It invites us to maintain the vision of success, while also balancing it with emotional sensitivity. It reminds us that we need to have a private life where we connect to our family and friends with love, kindness and peace, or at least connect to our own Heart in a space of self care and nurturing.

We must balance our career with our home life in some way. We must honor the cycles of work and rest, just as the Sun can shine all day and then night comes to balance and take us to rest.

The Eclipse effect of the Nodes will bring some accelerated awareness into this theme. It will potentially bring into awareness our subconscious patterning around our capacity to feel our emotions, to be vulnerable, to connect to others and find peaceful emotions. And since the Moon is close to Rahu, there may even be a strong desire to feel more, create comfort and rest rather than pursuing your committed goals and visions of success. We may feel a craving to connect, or even confusion around the ways our emotions are operating right now.

It’s fine to honor the need to rest, to slow down and to connect with life and others. Keep your commitments in mind, though so you don’t let them slip away. You may also use this time consciously to bring MORE heart, love and connection into your goals and commitments. Can you pursue your successes and vision while bring more emotion and love to fuel it?
